New prime minister Boris Johnson has paid tribute to his rival Jeremy Hunt after beating him in the Conservative leadership contest.

He says Mr Hunt is a “font of excellent ideas” and he promises to steal them.

He also pays tribute to outgoing PM Theresa May for her service to the country.

Boris Johnson says it was a privilege to serve in Theresa May’s cabinet and see the passion and determination she brought to the many causes that are her legacy.

He says it is an “extraordinary honour and privilege” to be elected Tory leader
