Briton becomes oldest man in the world at age 111

Britain’s oldest man Bob Weighton has become the oldest man in the world following the death of the previous holder of the title in Japan.

Chitetsu Watanabe died less than two weeks after being officially recognised by Guinness World Records.

Bob Weighton, from Hull, who now holds the title, was born in March 1908 – when Edward VII was King and Britain had yet to fight in two world wars.

He said that becoming the world’s oldest man was just “another fact of life”.
