Could tax credits be the Tories’ new poll tax? BBC News
On Wednesday we will learn what the chancellor is going to do about his planned cuts to tax credits. They affect nearly three million families who could lose around £1,300 a year. It is thought George Osborne will seek to lessen the pain and might even shelve the planned cuts altogether. But will that be enough?
Or could the row over tax credits linger on – and become the current Conservative government’s poll tax – causing it more lasting damage? The Victoria Derbyshire programme’s political guru, Norman Smith, investigates.
