End to suffering in sight as Italy sends ships to help take rejected migrants to Spain | ITV News

An end to the suffering of more than 600 migrants packed onto a boat in the Mediterranean is now in sight.

The migrants are now set to be taken off a rescue ship – for an onward journey to Spain.

The rescue ship Aquarius has been stuck since Saturday in international waters off the coast of Italy and Malta, both of which have refused it entry.

It is believed the ship was carrying 629 migrants including 123 unaccompanied minors, 11 children and six pregnant women.

Previously Italy’s new populist government refused them entry and suggested Malta take them in.

But the island nation also refused.
