A gang leader has called on the Prime Minister ‘put some money into the youths’ as the Home Secretary unveiled his plan to reduce knife Crime.
Sajid Javid said: “It’s all about preventing young people from turning to a life of crime and actually understanding the risks of carrying a knife.”
The new powers for police will include placing restrictions on suspected gang members from the age of 12 or over and could last, if approved by a court, for two years.
More than 100 people are suspected to have been deliberately killed in 2018 in London and the Office for National Statistics found a rise from 39,598 offences involving a knife or sharp instrument in 2017 – up from 32,468 in 2016.
