The Airports Commission has backed a third Heathrow runway, saying it will add £147bn in economic growth and 70,000 jobs by 2050. Several high-profile Conservatives are opposed to Heathrow expansion, including London mayor Boris Johnson, who predicted it “won’t happen”. Many of the residents in Harmondsworth, one of the villages near Heathrow likely to be demolished to make way for a third runway, said the runways report is devastating.
