Fifteen of the most at-risk heroin addicts in Middlesbrough will be given the Class A drug every day – under a new treatment plan.
Full details have been revealed of the first programme of its kind in the UK – aimed at cutting crime, and helping addicts survive and recover.
The pilot will cost around a quarter of a million pounds – mostly from the budget of the local Police and Crime Commissioner.
Tom Sheldrick reports.
