How secret network of tunnels helped drugs kingpin El Chapo evade police

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who has today been found guilty of drug trafficking, became one of the world’s most powerful drug lords thanks in part to his daring escapes from the law.

Caught and imprisoned several times, the Mexican drug kingpin became infamous for using a network of secret underground tunnels to evade police and the authorities.

He was finally found guilty in New York after almost three months of testimony which revealed his rise to power as a leader of the Sinaloa cartel, a gang which became notorious for its violence, killings and turf wars.
