‘We sat in the airport crying’: Irish couple describe travelling to abort terminal pregnancy

Due to Ireland’s strict abortion laws, Caroline and Michael McCarthy had to travel to Liverpool to end their pregnancy after their baby was diagnosed with a fatal foetal anomaly.

On 25 May, Ireland will vote on whether to repeal the eighth amendment. A “Yes” vote would allow for the government to legislate on terminations.

If Ireland votes “No”, the eighth amendment will remain in place.
