Beirut hospitals overwhelmed by thousands of injured people

Witnesses saw many people injured by flying glass and debris as a major explosion hit Lebanon capital Beirut.

Ambulances ferried the injured to hospital and there were numerous casualties.

The Lebanese Red Cross said 30 of its teams were responding to reports of casualties and that the organisation was on “high alert.”

A public call for blood donations followed swiftly.
