COVID-19: UK ‘acted as quickly as possible’ on variant found in Brazil
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps MP says the government acted ‘extremely quickly’ identifying the coronavirus Brazil variant.
He told Sky the government moved as soon as it had found the new variant after completing genome sequencing – the process that finds new mutations.
He also denied they had known about the variant originating from Brazil for longer than Sunday.
