WW1 Armistice: The women on the front line | ITV News

They are arguably the forgotten heroines of the Great War. While we mark the sacrifice of countless British men who gave their lives, the families of three extraordinary Yorkshire women are preparing to remember acts of immense bravery as well.

Minnie Wood and Nellie Spindler nursed wounded soldiers within shelling-distance of the Belgian trenches. Meanwhile, Flora Sandes became the only British woman to take up arms and fight on the front line.

In the latest of ITV Calendar’s series of films running up to the Armistice Day centenary, Michael Billington takes up their stories.
